Mohiniatta Nritya Kalakshetra, is an institution devoted to the promotion of classical dance, specially Mohiniattam. Aimed at preserving and propagating the rich cultural heritage, the institution began its journey in 1985, with just five students. Gradually, the number of students, interested in learning this graceful classical dance form, increased from year to year.

On 18th June 2002, Mohiniatta Nritya Kalakshetra, became a Registered Charitable Trust. Ever since, apart from conducting the regular school of Mohiniattam with exams and certification; Dance and Music Festivals were organised as well.

The first festival of Dance was organised in Dec 2003, at Mysore Association, Matunga on the theme of ‘Krishna’.

In 2004, a three day festival was organised showcasing two styles - Mohiniattam and Bharata Natyam.

In 2005, ‘Geeta Govinda’ festival was held based on Jayadeva’s lyrical song of love. Various institutions, teachers and students of classical dance participated in this festival.

In 2006 and 2007, there were Dance recitals coupled with book releases based on Dance and Music.

In 2008, Dance Festival was conducted with Mohiniattam, Bharata Natyam and Kathak too.

Mohiniatta Nritya Kalakshetra has awarded “Noopuradhwani”award to exemplary teachers of Bharata Natyam – Smt Lata Surendra and Smt Chhaya Khanvate - for their outstanding contribution to classical dance and to Smt Asha Joglekar for her outstanding contribution to Kathak.

In 2010, Mohiniatta Nritya Kalakshetra had the privilege to honour two rare individuals –Dr Sulochana Rajendran and Smt Kamala Kothandaraman with “Geetadhvani” and “Sahityamani’ titles respectively. A beautiful book entitled “Geetavahini”, authored by the duo, was released on this occasion.

In 2010 again, a dance recital based on Saint Arunagirinathar’s Thirupugazh was performed by Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna and her students in Mohiniattam style.

In Dec 2012, Mohiniatta Nritya Kalakshtra, presented the Mohiniattam Arangettam of Ms Ankita Menon, at Bhaidas hall, Vile Parle, Mumbai.
